Admission is free to all events, although offerings are appreciated. A reception will follow some performances. Parking is available for music events on evenings and weekends in the adjacent public lot on Washington St., at meters along the streets, and often at the Regions Bank garage. Cathedral Series Tuesday, September 30, at 7:30 pm David Briggs, organist We kickoff the International Year of the Organ with a concert by one of Britain’s most brilliant virtuosos! Music by Dvořák, Haydn, Berlioz, Bach, Grieg, Mahler, Rimsky-Korsakoff, and Ravel. In addition, enjoy a free organ improvisation workshop on Monday, September 29, at 7:30 pm. Co-sponsored by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and Mr. Lawrence Gordon.
Sunday, October 19, at 3:00 pm Organ Spectacular! Some of Central Florida’s finest organists play in the American Guild of Organists’ day of nationwide concerts. Featuring Dr. Terry Yount, Dr. Carl MaultsBy, Dr. Glen Osborne, Ms. Nancy Brzezinski, piano soloist Dr. Gary Wolfe, and Cathedral organist Benjamin Lane. Sunday, November 2, at 10:00 am Requiem by Gabriel Fauré As part of our Solemn Holy Eucharist on All Souls’ Day, the Cathedral Choir will sing this exquisite French Romantic Mass for the Departed, with chamber orchestra. Wednesday, December 24, at 10:30 pm Unto Us a Child is Born J. S. Bach’s Cantata 142, Uns ist ein Kind geboren, will be sung by the Cathedral Choir and soloists with chamber orchestra, followed by Midnight Mass at 11:00 pm.
Tuesday, January 27, at 7:30 pm Horns & Pipes Be sure to hear the 15th year of this popular concert! The Cathedral’s lively acoustic explodes with the dynamic sounds of 25 brass players, percussion, and Ben Lane at the pipe organ, all directed by Joseph Kreines, with guest conductor Michael Garasi from the University of Central Florida. Sunday, March 15, at 6:00 pm Lenten Vespers Concert The Cathedral Choir and the Stetson University Symphony Orchestra perform sacred music of the modern era. Hear the exquisite cantata Lux aeterna by Morten Lauridsen, plus anthems by Paul Halley, Peter Mathews, and Benjamin Lane. In memory of former Cathedral Choir member Dr. Thomas Scott, sponsored by his family and friends.
Friday, April 10, at 7:30 pm Tenebrae for Good Friday The Cathedral Chamber Singers lead an austere Service of Darkness with traditional hymns, a cappella choral music, and the dramatic reading of Christ’s Passion.
Sunday, April 19, at 4:00 pm Blessing of Families All ages are welcome to this unique service based on the Kirkin’ of the Tartans, presented by the Orlando Deanery Boychoir and Girls Choir, Cathedral Choristers, The Geneva School Rhetoric Choir, the Cathedral Arts Guild, and a band of bagpipes and drums. Followed by a gala reception with an art exhibit and musical entertainment by young musicians! Sponsored by The Geneva School.
Sunday, May 31, at 6:00 pm Homecoming Choral Evensong The Orlando Deanery Boychoir and Girls Choir combine with alumni and our Men’s Choir in a festive evening service in the Anglican tradition, with choral music from many eras. Reception following.
